During October staff worked to transform an unused space at Hulls Deaf Institute on Spring Bank into a IT Suite for members. One of the aims is to encourage younger members into integrating more with the facility. A number of contractors carried out work at cost or donated time/equipment for free with the money needed being raised through various events co-ordinated by member Janet Thompson.
A new 42" flat screen TV was donated by Ripon Recycling and wireless extended also through to the bar area.
In October, Shaun Nicholson, Managing Director was invited to attend a reception at the Lord Mayor's Parlour followed by a celebration of Freetown, Sierra Leone at the Hull Guildhall. Over the last 31 years Kingston upon Hull has been privileged to share a twinning relationship with Freetown.
Hull City Council have recently spent time in the City working with Freetown officials to improve their waste management strategy. Refurbit sent 10 computer systems out to Freetown in support of the project to help improve the ICT infrastructure of Freetown's Waste Management department.

Health Service Project in Tanzania

SKIP HYMS (Hull York Medical School) work in the town of Kibaha, west of Dar es Salaam, in Tanzania with a local NGO called MYODA (Mkuza Youth Development Association). They aim to improve awareness of children’s disability, increase local knowledge of HIV/AIDS and improve access to health care and education to all children in the area. In partnership with Refurbit in August, 4 PC's were delivered to Kibaha to set up a small Internet cafe which will then go on to raise money to build a new nursery.
